TRAIL - Modular Garden

10/16/2024

TRAIL is a modular system –– inspired by the Aztec Chinampas –– for growing plants indoors, based on one simple shape that can be combined, scaled and is designed for ease of watering. The continuous nature of the structure can act as a space separator –– a living sculpture that moderates and dictates room flow, similar to the dry zen gardens of Japan.

RESEARCH SCOPE & PROBLEM

  • U.S. needs 4.3M more apartments by 2035 to address housing demand.
  • Hydrogels reduce water waste & promote plant growth.
  • 55% garden for aesthetics, 43% for food in the U.S.

SCHEMATICS

After selecting a form, using Autodesk Fusion360, I developed CAD for TRAIL.

STAGING

Using Blender, I staged the forms as if they were used in a home. Scroll to the top to see the full animation on YouTube.
